This brilliant achievement is not only a massive milestone in Amy’s personal chess career but also makes history for our town—Amy is the second girl ever from Millburn/Short Hills to earn her way onto the US National Chess Team! She has brought tremendous honor to the entire town, making every resident incredibly proud.

Congratulations to Matthew Su for a spectacular performance at the Amateur East 2026 tournament! Competing against 80 players in the Under 1400 section, Matthew became the champion with a phenomenal score of 5.5 out of 6 points. We are incredibly proud of your hard work and brilliant strategy on the board. Keep up the amazing work, Matthew!

A huge round of applause also goes to Max Liu for his fantastic showing at the Amateur East 2026 tournament! Max competed in the same challenging Under 1400 section. He earned an impressive 7th place finish by scoring a strong 4.5 out of 6 points. Congratulations on a great event, Max!

At the 2026 NJ State Scholastic Tournament, Bryce Lin delivered an outstanding performance that showcased exceptional skill and focus on the board. He earned an impressive 4.5 out of 5 points, highlighted by a notable win and a draw against 1500-rated opponents. These strong results reflect his excellent technical preparation and deep understanding of the game. Capping off this wonderful achievement, Bryce proudly took home his biggest trophy to date. Please join us in sending a massive congratulations to our very own Anvay Sharma for his incredible performance at the 1st Annual New York Metro Area Scholastic Chess GRADE Championships, held recently at the New York Marriott Marquis in Times Square! Competing in the first-grade section, Anvay captured an impressive 2nd place finish with a near-perfect score of 5.5 out of 6. This phenomenal run not only earned him a spot on the podium but also boosted his US Chess rating by about 200 points, rocketing him to nearly 1200. We are incredibly proud of your hard work, dedication, and brilliant moves on the board, Anvay—keep up the fantastic work!

We would like to congratulate our students who joined the 03/29/26 NJ Brookdale K-12 Scholastic Championship. There were 3 sections in this tournament: K-2, 3-5 and 6-9. There were 105, 176, and 151 players in each section respectively.

We are thrilled to celebrate Matthew Su for his fantastic performance at the 1st Annual New York Metro Area Scholastic Chess Championships held on January 3–4, 2026. Competing in the Elementary Under 1500 section, Matthew earned an impressive 4/5 score to secure a well-deserved 3rd place finish. Beyond his success on the board, Matthew also had the inspiring opportunity to meet the world’s youngest Grandmaster, making for a truly unforgettable weekend. We are incredibly proud of Matthew’s dedication and congratulate him on this wonderful milestone!

We are delighted to celebrate Max Liu’s outstanding performance at the 2025 National K-12 Grades Championship in Spokane, Washington. Competing in the 4th Grade Championship from December 12–14, Max navigated a highly competitive field of 147 participants to finish with an impressive 5/7 score, placing 26th overall and tying for 14th. This remarkable result is a testament to Max’s dedication and skill, and we couldn’t be prouder of his achievement on the national stage. Congratulations, Max, on this well-deserved success!

We are delighted to extend our heartfelt congratulations to our student, Raymond, for achieving an impressive peak rating of 1766. This remarkable milestone follows his outstanding 6/6 performance at the 2025 World Amateur Team Tournament.

We are pleased to congratulate our student Amy on reaching a new peak rating of 1507, following her strong performances at the CFCC 2025 Sunshine (Section D) in Florida and the Princeton Open. She is selected to the newly formed NJ Junior Team by the United States Chess Federation. Amy’s consistent effort and improvement are commendable, and we look forward to her continued success.

We are delighted to congratulate our student Bryce on achieving an impressive peak rating of 799. This milestone follows his outstanding performances at the CFCC 2025 Sunshine Open (Scholastic U1200) in Florida and our 65th Tournament. Bryce has demonstrated remarkable progress, increasing his rating by over 400 points in just a few weeks through exceptional play against higher-rated opponents.

We are proud to congratulate our student Max on reaching an impressive peak rating of 1397, following his excellent performances at the 78th Amateur East Individual Tournament and SuperNationals VIII. Max secured 5th place in the Amateur East U1400 division and achieved a notable 18th place finish at the national level. His strong results demonstrate significant dedication and steady improvement, reflecting his commitment to advancing his skills.

Deerfield Chess Team became K-2 Grade New Jersey State Champions! The scholastic tournament took place on February 25th in Brookdale, NJ. Close to 500 players participated.

Our students also became the Millburn Chess League Champions which compromised of weekly matches from September to late March 2024. We are proud of the team and all of our students!

Coach Bilgen placed 2nd in the 47th Annual East Open in the U2200 section with a score of 6.5/8. He also tied 4th place in the Blitz Tournament scoring 6/8 points. Tournament was held in Virginia and took 4 days over the Christmas break.
